The Novelty Hill – Januik Winery is a family-owned and operated winery in Woodinville, Washington. The company began as the dream of Joseph Januik to produce fine wines from his home state. Over three decades later, that dream has been realized with over 15 grape varietals grown on-site at Vintage Northwest Winegrowers’ largest vineyard, located just west of Seattle across Lake Washington’s eastern shoreline. In addition to producing their wines from grapes grown in Eastern Washington, they work closely with local growers who share their commitment to quality wine production through sustainable farming practices during the growing season and throughout harvest time preparations for hand-picked fruit harvesting.

Novelty Hill – Januik Winery was first established in 1935 by Mr. Peter Januik Sr., who became one of Washington State’s most respected wine growers and producers after he arrived from Croatia as a young man. His son, John Januik Jr., took over the business following his father’s death and has continued the family tradition of producing high-quality wines with a rich history.

Today, Novelty Hill – Januik Winery is led by the third generation of Januik winemakers and continues to be a hub for wine enthusiasts, offering tours every day at 11:00 am and then again on Saturdays from 12-12:45 pm. These guided tours allow guests to learn about the artistry behind creating fine wines and will enable them to taste some of their favorite wines in person.

About the Novelty Hill – Januik Winery

Vineyards are situated near Woodinville and Rattlesnake Hills of the Columbia Valley AVA. The central estate vineyard is on Latah Creek Road with 14 acres (57,000 m) planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes; another 46-acre site was purchased nearby called “The Hermitage” Cabernet Sauvignon production. Another 53-acre parcel adjacent to this has not yet been developed into a vineyard, but some grapevines were planted as an experiment after they bought it. Their first vintage under their label was 1990.

Novelty Hill – Januik Winery was also awarded a “Top 100 Wines of North America” award by Food & Wine Magazine for its Belle Glos Pinot Noir, which is only available at this winery and selected restaurants across Washington state.

In addition, o running an entire service business offering wine tastings, the Novelty Hill – Januik Winery also hosts weddings and private events in their newly renovated tasting room. No reservation is needed on Saturdays, Sundays & Memorial Day weekend (May 26th to May 28th), which features special tastings with a $20 per person donation at the door benefiting Seattle Children’s Hospital.

It takes around 20 minutes to walk from Westlake Center to the boat dock, where you start your magical journey.

There are two types of boat tours – a 50 minute or 90-minute tour that includes Lake Union’s history, the waterfront views, and houseboats.

If you want to go on both tours, then buy them as one ticket for $18 at the kiosk just before boarding your vessel. This saves time waiting in line.

There are more than 30 magical landings during your tour where you can disembark to explore or take a photo.

You’ll see Seattle’s iconic floating homes, the South Lake Union Trolley on Westlake Avenue, and Gas Works Park on North Lake Union – an old gas plant that was converted into a public park with its famous art installation of a steel plant.

When the boat docks at Lake Union Locks, you’ll walk past historic ships, enjoy fantastic views, and explore narrow winding corridors that lead to an interactive museum about how boats have been lifted from sea level to lake level since 1915.

The building was initially built by Weyerhaeuser Lumber Mill Company, which used it from 1954 through 1993 when they filed bankruptcy and closed their doors forever. This illustrated history of a lumber mill combined with children’s activities makes this one of our favorite museums! If you are interested in seeing how things were made back then- check out all the exhibits like spinning wheels (which we loved!), an old car engine and gears, life-sized saw blades that spun around really fast (don’t worry, there isn’t any real danger), and much more!

Do not expect a babysitter to be standing by your side just in case something goes wrong with the kids… Parents are required to stay within arms reach of their children at all times as there is no staff or security on site.

Try not to touch any of the machines; they are ancient and sensitive to dust or fingerprints! If you want a photo with someone in it.. ask them first.

Do NOT go into this museum thinking that you’re just going to be playing pinball all day!

Don’t wear stilettos. The floor is very sticky; you’ll end up falling and getting hurt (this happened).

Some people work here that don’t like rude visitors.. so if someone asks you not to do something… listen, or they may kick you out.

Try not to yell or be very loud; people are trying to play pinball machines. This isn’t a place for running around and having fun.. its more of a museum with old games! If you want that kind of experience, go somewhere else.

Don’t make any sudden movements near the machines either… they’re sensitive too!

The variety in subject matter is fantastic, so there will be something for everyone! We have paintings by famous Seattle artists like Kenneth Callahan and Mark Tobey and work by many other talented artists.

The island itself has a rich history, including its role during WWII when shipyards ran 24 hours per day to build ships for war efforts. One can experience some aspects of this at both Fort Ward Park and Eagle Harbor aboard the USS Turner Joy, which was part of an important naval event: The Battle of Midway, where US forces defeated Japanese battleships. Today there is a small, free museum that allows you to learn more about this.

Bainbridge Island Museum is located at 550 Winslow Way E, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110, United States.

Bus: – Take Bus #115 (runs along Madison Ave.) or 1050 (stops at Winslow Way & Ericksen Ave NE) both contain right in front of the museum – get off near the brick walls surrounding its entrance. Similarly, we will be writing some additional sentences here.

Car: – Drive on I-90 W until you get to Exit #15 (Madison St. NE).

Island Ferry Terminal and walk towards Ericksen Ave. NW, then turn left onto Winslow Way, which will lead you straight into museum grounds. During this time, we were writing some additional sentences here as well!

Admission prices are free for SAM members, ticket ranges from $12.99 – $19.99 (depending on age) per adult ticket, with discounts available if you purchase multiple keys at once. Children under 14 can also enter free! Additionally, there is always a docent stationed inside who can answer any questions about upcoming exhibits even talk more generally about what to expect if you’re thinking about attending for the first time.
