History of Arbor Lodge, Portland, Oregon

The history of Arbor Lodge, Portland, Oregon, is a long and rich one. This neighborhood has been around for over 100 years and has seen many changes throughout the years. It was initially developed as an industrial area, but it quickly grew into a residential community as people fell in love with its charm and convenience.

Arbor Lodge was first developed in 1905 by James Johnstone, who named it after his estate near Aberdeen, Scotland. The original name for this neighborhood was “Aberdeen.” However, because there was already another neighborhood in Portland with that name, it was changed to Arbor Lodge in 1908.

In January 1905, the first house went up at SE 28th Avenue and Stark Street. By 1913 there were about 50 houses throughout the community, with more being built every year. There was an elementary school located in this area (Arbor Station Elementary) that opened its doors in 1912 and is still standing today (by Portland standards). It’s not used as a school anymore but instead serves as office space for Portland Community College Cascade Campus students.

Arbor Station Elementary has seen many changes over the years, including adding an annex building, converting one block of houses serving as classrooms back into family homes, and changing its name to “Alameda Ridge.” In 1997 another change occurred when Portland Community College Cascade Campus moved into Arbor Station. It now serves as office space and hosts classes that help people gain skills for the workforce.

Today, Arbor Lodge is a vibrant and eclectic community with a rich history. There are many interesting buildings and homes in the neighborhood and two city parks – Meridian Park and Sellwood-Moreland Park. The Neighborhood Association hosts several events throughout the year, including an art walk, tree lighting ceremony, and arbor day celebration.

The neighborhood increased after World War II as veterans moved into the area looking for affordable housing.

A Guide to Cleaning Your Oven Before Moving: The Best Practices

Stepping into a new home is like turning the page to a fresh new chapter of your life. It’s full of possibilities, adventures, and, of course, a fair bit of organizing and scrubbing. One critical task often overlooked during this transition is the ‘good old oven cleanup.’

After countless meals and baking sessions, your oven has probably collected its fair share of grime and grease. So, as you bid adieu to your old kitchen, why not give your trusty oven the deep clean it deserves? If you’re not sure where to start, you can always contact professional cleaning services in Wallingford to help you out!

A Guide to Cleaning Your Oven Before Moving

What is the best way to clean a very dirty oven?

Moving homes involves juggling numerous cleaning tasks, each equally significant in shaping your home’s final appeal. From revitalizing aging cabinets to banishing dust and grime from floors, your cleaning list might already seem extensive. Yet, amidst this bustle, one task should not be overlooked – the deep cleanse of your trusty oven.

Here’s how you can do so:

Step 1: The initial prep – Emptying the oven

Start with an empty oven for effective cleaning. Remove all racks, trays, thermometers, pizza stones, or any other items within it. These will be cleaned separately. Remember, a clutter-free workspace simplifies the task and makes it easier to tidy up thoroughly.

Step 2: Create your perfect solution

A simple homemade solution can work wonders for your oven. Mix half a cup of baking soda with a few tablespoons of water until you get a spreadable paste, thick enough to stick to the walls of your oven. Adjust the amount of water or baking soda as necessary.

Step 3: Don’t forget protective equipment

Before you dive into the sea of grime and grease, suit up! Don a pair of sturdy rubber gloves to protect your hands from grit and chemicals. For a further touch of caution, consider wearing protective glasses to shield your eyes from any unexpected splashes. As a cherry on top of this safety sundae, spread newspapers around. Using this little hack, you can catch rebellious drips before they damage your floor.

Step 4: Apply the mixture

With the paste ready, roll up your sleeves and get to work. Sprinkle this mixture throughout the oven, steering clear of the heating elements. Generously layer the oven walls, top, and bottom. Once coated, let it sit for at least 12 hours or overnight, giving it enough time to break down the stubborn grime and grease.

Step 5: Take care of the oven racks

As the mixture bakes, let’s turn our attention to the racks. Fill a tub or a large sink with warm water and a few squirts of dish soap. Submerge the racks and allow them to soak for a couple of hours. After soaking, scrub away any lingering grime with a scouring pad, rinse thoroughly, and leave to dry.

Step 6: Wipe down the oven

After the paste has been sitting for at least 12 hours, it’s time to remove it. Using a damp cloth, begin wiping down the oven’s interior. You’ll notice the grime coming off with the paste. A plastic scraper can prove invaluable for more stubborn spots, but ensure it’s gentle enough to avoid scratching the surface.

Step 7: A final rinse

With the majority of the paste and grime removed, spray a bit of vinegar wherever you see baking soda residue. The vinegar reacts with the baking soda, helping to remove any lingering paste. Finish off by wiping the interior with a damp cloth until the oven is spotless.

Step 8: Replace the racks

Now that you have a pristine oven and racks, it is time to install new racks inside. Take a moment to admire your hard work.

How to Clean your Washing Machine? Updated 2022

The washing machine is a vital part of every household. It’s used almost daily and sometimes multiple times per day. This means it needs to be cleaned regularly to keep it functioning at its highest level. But how often should you clean your washer? The answer depends on the type of washer you have, but once every six months is good enough for most people. Read this article for more information about different types of cleaning methods!

how to clean your washing machine

Why is it Important to Clean your Washing Machine?

There are many reasons why you should want to clean your washing machine. It is essential for both your machine’s longevity and your clothes’ health. Dirty machines can cause your clothes to wear out more quickly, and they can also spread bacteria and mold.

Regularly cleaning your washing machine can help prolong its life span and keep it running smoothly. It can also help eliminate any bacteria or mold that may be growing inside your machine. Cleaning your appliance regularly will help ensure that it is safe and sanitary for you and your family to use.

What is the Best Way to Clean a Top Loading Washing Machine?

One of the best and natural ways to clean a top-loading washing machine is by using a vinegar and water solution. The mixture can be made by mixing one cup of white vinegar with two gallons of hot water. It would help if you poured this mixture into the washer’s detergent dispenser, then select the hottest cycle and run it. This will help remove any build-up or residue from the washer.

Another way to clean your washing machine is by using bleach. Bleach can help kill any bacteria or mold built up in the machine. To use bleach, you’ll need to mix one tablespoon of chlorine bleach per gallon of warm water. Pour this mixture into the detergent dispenser and run a hot cycle.

After cleaning your washing machine, make sure to clean the lint trap on your dryer. This will help ensure that your clothes are getting cleaned properly. You can clean the lint trap using a vacuum cleaner or a brush. Finally, always remember to unplug your washing machine when not in use. This will help prevent any accidents from happening.

What is the best way to Clean Your Front Loading Washing Machine?

One of the best ways to clean your front loading washing machine is vinegar. Vinegar is a natural cleaner and disinfectant that can help eliminate any build-up of dirt in your machine. Fill up the detergent dispenser with white vinegar and run a normal cycle to use vinegar. The vinegar will help loosen any dirt or grime, and you can then rinse it away with water.

You can also use bleach to clean your washing machine. Fill up the detergent dispenser with bleach and run a normal cycle. Bleach is a powerful disinfectant that can help kill any bacteria or germs in your machine. Just be sure to avoid using too much bleach as it can damage your machine’s seals and gaskets over time. Another good option is to use a specialized cleaner or detergent. You can buy many different types of cleaning agents from your local store that will help clean away dirt and grime in your front-loading washing machine. Be sure to follow the instructions on the packaging for best results, as these cleaners may require a longer wash time or more rinses than usual before thoroughly removing any residue from inside the drum area.

It would help if you poured this mixture into the washer’s detergent dispenser, then select the hottest cycle and run it. This will help remove any build-up or residue from the washer.

Cleaning your washing machine is an important task that should be done regularly. By following these tips, you can keep your washer running smoothly and help prolong its life span.

Steps on Cleaning Washing Machine

Thankfully, cleaning a washing machine is not difficult. There are only three steps you need to follow:

Step One: Remove the Basket and Clean It

The first step is to remove the basket from your machine. This is where you put your clothes when they are being washed. Be sure to clean it thoroughly with hot water and soap. You may also want to use a brush or a scouring pad to remove any built-up dirt or grime.

Step Two: Clean the Tub

The next step is to clean the tub of your washing machine. This can be done by using a mixture of vinegar and water. Pour the mixture into the washer and run it on its highest setting. The vinegar will help dissolve any build-up that has been collected over time.

Step Three: Clean the Hoses

The final step is to clean the hoses of your washing machine. This can be done by using a mixture of bleach and water. Pour the mixture into the washer and run it on its highest setting. The bleach will help kill any bacteria or mold collected over time.

Once you have completed these steps, your washing machine should be nice and clean! Be sure to perform this cleaning process regularly to keep your machine in good condition.

how to clean your washing machine

Tips on Cleaning your Washing Machine

There are many ways to clean your washing machine. You can start by unplugging the device and spending some time cleaning it with a vacuum cleaner before actually using any of these methods. If you have hard water, you may want to consider getting an additional filter for your appliances that use water, such as dishwashers or clothes washers, to avoid calcium build-up on surfaces with high mineral content in the local water supply. It’s also possible for soap residue to get clogged inside of the machine itself if people do not take proper care when they load their clothing into it, which can lead to foul odors forming over time due to this issue becoming exacerbated overtime resulting from increased bacteria growth caused by poor ventilation around the drum.

Vinegar and Baking Soda

One of the simplest and natural ways to clean your washing machine is to add a cup of vinegar to the wash cycle and run it on a regular cycle. You can also use baking soda as an alternative which can be helpful if there are any tough stains that you need to get rid of. If you have a top-loading machine, then adding these ingredients directly into the water drum is advised, but if you have a front loading machine, it’s best to put them in a small container or laundry bag before placing them in the washer. You should avoid using bleach when cleaning your washing machine as this can damage certain surfaces and materials over time.

Commercial Product

Another option for cleaning your washing machine is to purchase a commercial product specifically designed for this purpose. These products are easy to use and can help get rid of built-up residue inside your machine to have better results when using it in the future. It’s important to understand that vinegar is unsuitable for cleaning washing machines because it can leave behind certain odors. Still, commercial cleaners are designed with special chemicals that don’t have these types of issues which may be why they work better than other methods, according to some people who have used them before.

Store Cleaner

That’s just one example of how to clean your washer, but it doesn’t have to stop here if you want more options available for yourself. You can find out what else works best by doing some research online or asking someone at a store that sells these cleaners which ones are worth buying and why they recommend them over other brands even though there might not be any differences except price when comparing all of them since most will probably say their product is better simply because they paid more money for marketing purposes so this isn’t necessarily true in every case unless there are unique features present with one cleaner specifically designed to work better than others based on its ingredients list and whatever else may set it apart from similar products, not just the price.

The important thing is that you take some action and clean your washing machine every once in a while to stay in good condition for as long as possible. Doing this will help reduce problems like foul smells, bacteria growth, and mold formation from happening in the future, which can cause even more severe issues if left untreated for too long. So what are you waiting for? Get started cleaning your washer today!

How to Clean a Bathtub? Updated 2022

A bathtub is a great place to take a relaxing soak. A clean tub will make your experience even more enjoyable by preventing any dirt or soap scum from getting on you. But, if the tub has become filthy with mold and mildew, it can be hard to know where to start cleaning. This blog post will discuss how to clean your bathtub without using harsh chemicals thoroughly!

how to clean a bathtub

Why is it Important to Clean your Bathtub?

Cleanliness is next to godliness. Cleaning your bathtub will help prevent mold and mildew from growing in it, which can be dangerous for the respiratory system if inhaled. Mold and mildew also release spores that can aggravate allergies or trigger asthma symptoms. If you have children, this could affect their health as well, so make sure you clean out any hidden spots where they might play!

If you have a bathtub that has been stained from use, it’s probably because of all the soap scum that gets built up and mineral deposits. In addition to adding cleaner into your tub before taking a shower or bath, there are several other ways you can clean out those stains and buildup so your tub looks lovely again!

How often should you clean your bathtub?

Once a week is ideal for most people with busy schedules. If this doesn’t work for your schedule, aim to be consistent every few days at least. Once the grime starts building up on any surface in our home, we tend to forget about cleaning it until it becomes an emergency. Try not to let this happen to your tub!

How to prevent future buildup?

Once clean, there are several ways to ensure no stains will return anytime soon:

– To keep soap scum from returning, consider using less shower gel or shampoo when bathing so water can rinse these off quickly before they dry onto surfaces of the bathtub—getting rid of all moisture after each use is crucial as well since this provides an environment where mold and mildew love to grow.

– Apply a coat of car wax or furniture polish to the surface of your tub every few months. This will help create a barrier against any dirt, grime, or water that may try and accumulate on it in the future.

– Use a squeegee after each shower to remove excess water from the surfaces before it has time to seep in and cause problems down the line.

Following these tips should help keep your bathtub clean for longer without all the elbow grease (or harsh chemicals)! If a buildup does start to reappear over time, don’t be afraid to give one of these methods another go – eventually, you’ll find one that works best for you and becomes part of your regular cleaning routine!

Best Ways to Clean Bathtub

There are several different methods you can try when cleaning your tub. Here are a few that have worked well for many people:

– Pour boiling water onto the surface of the tub and let it sit for a few minutes to loosen any built-up dirt or grime. Use a brush (or your hands) to scrub it away, then rinse with cold water.

– Mix baking soda and vinegar into a paste, apply to the stains and let it sit for about 15 minutes before scrubbing clean. Rinse off with warm water afterward.

– Make a diluted bleach solution in a spray bottle and use that to spritz on any areas that need extra attention. Let it sit for about five minutes before rinsing off thoroughly with warm water. Beware: bleach can be harsh on some surfaces, so test this method in an inconspicuous spot first to ensure it won’t damage the surface.

– Mix together dish soap, baking soda, and water into a paste that you can use as an exfoliating scrub on any stains leftover from your previous bath or shower. You don’t need anything special for this method either! Rinse with warm water afterward, then wipe down dry to prevent future buildup in these areas.

– If you have too many stains to try and scrub away yourself, your best bet might be hiring a professional. They’ll know the right products for removing buildup or discoloration without damaging your tub’s surface either! You could also look into refinishing it if you need more help on that end.

How to Clean Bathtub?

Using Dish Soap and Bleach:
This can be done by adding one cup of each into the water, then immersing it in the tub while scrubbing the stains with an abrasive sponge or brush. Allow this mixture to sit for at least two hours before rinsing away with cold water followed by warm water. If any stains remain, repeat this process until they are gone. This combination may also remove rust particles on old grout if allowed time to soak; however, too much exposure will corrode steel fixtures within eight hours, so monitor accordingly. Afterward, flush out debris from drains using equal parts vinegar, baking soda (two cups), and boiling water (one cup).

Using Baking Soda and Vinegar:
Another method of cleaning a bathtub is to use baking soda and vinegar. This can be done by pouring half a cup each into the tub, then scrubbing with an abrasive brush or sponge before allowing it time to sit for at least ten minutes. Next, flush out debris from drains using equal parts vinegar, baking soda (two cups), and boiling water (one cup) followed by cold water. If any stains remain, repeat this process until they are gone; however, too much exposure will corrode steel fixtures within eight hours, so monitor accordingly. To protect against corrosion caused by salts in hard tap water, add one tablespoon white distilled vinegar per gallon of rinse water.

Using a Commercial Product:
A third method of cleaning a bathtub is to use a commercial product. This can be done by following the manufacturer’s directions, then rinsing away with cold water followed by warm water. If any stains remain, repeat this process until they are gone. Be sure to read the warnings and precautions on the label before using. Afterward, flush out debris from drains using equal parts vinegar, baking soda (two cups), and boiling water (one cup).

Cleaning Tips:

-Always test any cleaning solution in an inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire surface.
-Never mix bleach with other household chemicals such as ammonia agents as this could create a dangerous gas.
-If using a commercial product, be sure to read the warnings and precautions on the label before use.
-To protect against corrosion caused by salts in hard tap water, add one tablespoon white distilled vinegar per gallon of rinse water.
-After cleaning the bathtub, flush out debris from drains using equal parts vinegar, baking soda (two cups), and boiling water (one cup).

how to clean a bathtub

Steps on Cleaning your Bathtub

The first step to cleaning your bathtub is to remove any large chunks of dirt or debris. You can do this by scraping them off with a brush or using a vacuum cleaner with the hose attachment. If there is any caked-on soap scum or mildew, you can use a detergent to help loosen it up. Be sure to wear gloves and goggles while doing this, as the chemicals in the detergent can be harmful if they come into contact with your skin or eyes.

Once all the big pieces are gone, you can start scrubbing the tub with a soft cloth and some hot water. Make sure to get into all the nooks and crannies so that no dirt or grime remains! If there is any stubborn mildew or soap scum, you can use a more potent cleanser. Just be sure to avoid using harsh chemicals, as they can damage the finish on your bathtub.

Once the tub is clean, rinse it thoroughly with hot water and dry it off with a soft cloth. You may want to consider applying a coat of polish or sealant to protect the finish from future dirt and grime buildup. Now you can enjoy a sparkling clean bathtub without having to worry about any harmful chemicals!

Why is it Important to Clean a Couch?

Cleaning your couch will not only make it look cleaner but also help clean out all of the dirt and germs. This can help prevent allergies from being spread and prevent other health issues. This could be especially important if you have children as they are more susceptible to getting sick. In addition, if you have pets that sit on the couch, cleaning it regularly should be done to keep everything sanitary. Not to mention, a dirty couch doesn’t look as nice as a clean one!

It’s essential to keep your furniture clean, not only for aesthetic reasons but also for health reasons. Dust mites are tiny creatures that thrive in dirty environments and can cause asthma and other respiratory problems. So be sure to give your couches a good cleaning every once in a while! Follow these tips below, and it will be looking like new again in no time.

Tips on Cleaning a Couch

-Vacuum the couch regularly. This will help eliminate all the dirt and dust that has built up over time.

-Use a wet cloth to clean any spills or stains as soon as they happen. This will help prevent them from setting in and becoming harder to remove.

-Spot clean any areas that are particularly dirty using a detergent or soap solution. Be sure to rinse off the area afterward with water to avoid any residue buildup.

-For tougher stains, you can use a carpet cleaner or upholstery cleaner made explicitly for couches. Follow the instructions on the bottle and test it out on an inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn’t damage the fabric.

-If the couch is filthy, it might be a good idea to give it a deep clean. You can do this by mixing up a solution of water and vinegar (50/50) and spraying it all over the couch. Let it sit for a few minutes before using a wet cloth to scrub the dirt. Be sure to rinse off the area afterward with water.

How to Clean Couch?

The first step is to identify the type of fabric your sofa is made from. Once you know that, you can find the appropriate cleaning method. For example, if your sofa is made from synthetic materials such as polyester or acrylic, then you can use a solution of warm water and dish soap. Be sure to test the solution on an inconspicuous area of the couch before applying it to the entire piece.

Polyester

If your sofa is made from polyester, you can use a solution of warm water and dish soap. Be sure to test the solution on an inconspicuous area of the couch before applying it to the entire piece.

Acrylic

If your sofa is made from acrylic, you can try using a vacuum with an upholstery attachment to remove any dirt or dust. You can also use a wet cloth to spot clean any spills or stains. Do not saturate the fabric with water. Always test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the couch to ensure it does not cause damage or discoloration.

Cotton

If your sofa is made from natural fibers like cotton or wool, then a gentle shampooing with a mild detergent is the best way to clean it. It’s essential not to use too much water or pressure when applying a cleaning agent as that may damage your couch and cause color bleeding.

Best Way to Clean Couch

For Leather couch:

Start by using a vacuum to remove any loose dirt or debris. Mix one cup of water, ½ tsp. Dishwashing liquid and ¼ tsp. White vinegar in a spray bottle (if you don’t have this mixing ingredient). Spray the solution on the leather couch and use paper towels to wipe it over the surface until clean. Use another towel with dry cloths to absorb excess moisture from your furniture. Repeat these steps if the stain remains visible. Leave your couch open for drying completely before closing up again when it dries out thoroughly, which may take 24 hours maximum depending on climate conditions like humidity levels etc. Follow the same process when cleaning fabric couches, except when applying the cleaner, mix only two tablespoons of dishwashing detergent in warm water since fabrics are more absorbent.

For Upholstered Couch:

Mix ¼ cup liquid dishwashing soap and one gallon of warm water in a bucket, then dip the sponge into the solution. Wipe over a surface that should be damp, not soaked, or let it dry before applying this mixture to avoid damage to furniture since leather is more delicate than upholstered couches; hence needs particular attention when cleaning them. If you have pets at home, use pet stain remover with ingredients like enzymatic cleaners, specifically for removing stains caused by animals’ urine, etc. Use paper towels or clean cloths to wipe away cleaner from your couch until all marks disappear entirely. Once done, leave it open so air can circulate freely through its fabric pores, drying out quickly after you will notice no moisture on its surface.

For Chenille Sofa:

Use one tablespoon dishwashing liquid mixed in two cups of warm water, then dip the sponge into the solution to wipe over a surface that should be damp, not soaked, or let it dry before applying this mixture to avoid damage to furniture since leather is more delicate than upholstered couches hence needs particular attention when cleaning them. Use paper towels or clean cloths to wipe away cleaner from your couch until all marks disappear thoroughly; once done, leave it open so air can circulate freely through its fabric pores, drying out quickly after you will notice no moisture on its surface too much. Mix ¼ cup vinegar and ½ teaspoon dishwashing soap with two tablespoons baking soda and mix well by adding a few drops of water until it forms a thick paste, then apply it to the stained area on your chenille sofa. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes so that the enzymes can work and break down the dirt or food particles, causing a stain. Then use a damp sponge to wipe away the baking soda and vinegar mixture as well as the cleaning solution left behind after the enzymatic cleaner has done its job. Finally, blot dry with paper towels or clean cloths.

For Fabric Couch:

Mix one tablespoon dishwashing liquid with two cups of warm water, then dip the sponge into the solution to wipe over a surface that should be damp, not soaked. Use paper towels or clean cloths to wipe away cleaner from your couch until all marks disappear thoroughly; once done, leave it open so air can circulate freely through its fabric pores, drying out quickly after you will notice no moisture on its surface too much. If stain is still visible, use hydrogen peroxide mixed with baking soda to create a paste, apply it directly onto the stained area and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Use a brush or toothbrush to work the mixture into the fabric’s fibers, making sure that every nook and cranny is covered, then let dry. Once dried, vacuum up the residue.

How To Clean Sofa Naturally?

There are many ways to clean a couch, but some methods can be dangerous or harmful to your furniture. This blog post will explore how to clean a couch naturally without using any harsh chemicals.

You will need to gather your supplies. The items needed for this project include baking soda (optional), vinegar, water, a soft cloth, and dish soap.

It’s best to start with the front of your couch first. Take some warm water in a bowl and add small dish soap. Make sure the water is warm, so it doesn’t cause any damage to your couch’s fabric, but also make sure you don’t use too much soap because this can lead to residue being left behind on your couch.

You will need about half a cup of baking soda for each cushion on your sofa. You can choose whether or not to remove all of the cushions from the couches before beginning this process; however, they recommend removing them first if they are removable furniture pieces. If there are no removable components, brush some baking soda onto both sides of every cushion piece used previously (if applicable), then turn over repeat the same step with the underside of cushions.

Next, you will need to take a cloth and wipe down the entire front of your couch with warm soapy water. Ensure that all areas are covered because this step is essential in cleaning a sofa naturally without using harsh chemicals. Next, use another soft cloth to dry off all surfaces entirely before moving on to other steps if needed or desired based upon material type!

Lastly, lightly mist baking soda onto every surface again, then let it sit for about 15 minutes before brushing away any residue left behind by taking yet another soft rag and wiping everything one last time together until there are no visible signs of leftover powder everywhere because doing so can result in future stains appearing during regular wear & tear over long periods!

Now that you know how to clean a couch naturally, the next time it needs a good cleaning, give one of these methods a try! Not only will your furniture be free of any harsh chemicals and residues, but it will also smell fresh and new. Who wouldn’t love that? If you don’t have time to clean your couch yourself, you can always hire a professional.
