Tigard is a city in Washington County, Oregon. Tigard was first incorporated under the name “Scholls” after Scholl’s Ferry, which crossed the Tualatin River at that point on what became Pacific Highway West (also known as Sunset Highway), and then renamed itself to be Tigard in 1893. Tigard was incorporated as Tigard City in 1961, after achieving city status through a popular vote of the community on May 13, 1960. In a Portland metropolitan area, Tigard is located at the southern end of Washington County, adjacent to Tigard (unincorporated) and Durham (also unincorporated). The city includes some territory extending into neighboring Clackamas County; this portion of Tigard has also been incorporated as Tigard.
