The history of North Mississippi Avenue dates back to the 19th century. It was known as “Mississippi Street,” In 1891, a post office named “North Mississippi Branch” opened there.

In 1907, an electric streetcar line began service along this street, allowing further development due to increased accessibility. Shortly after, the streetcar line closed and replaced a bus service.

The 1950s was when North Mississippi Avenue became a trendy neighborhood for Bohemians who moved to the area after World War II. It has been said that during this period, there were around 60 bars that had live music, with many types of genres being played, such as folk, rock, and country.

Eventually, this neighborhood became known as “The Avenue,” and it continues to be a popular destination today!
