About the Madison Park Neighborhood

 

The Madison Park neighborhood is the largest and most diverse neighborhood in Seattle. It has a long history that stretches back to before the turn of the century, but it’s only been since then that Madison Park has seen significant development changes. Today, this area is known for its tree-lined streets and proximity to many different types of shopping opportunities.

 

In the early 20th century, Madison Park was a summer resort community. The land had been logged and sold off in lots to individual buyers who would build weekend cabins along with Lake Washington during hot months. When the streetcar system arrived in Seattle at this time, it made getting out to “the country” much easier for locals looking for a respite from city life. 

 

As tourists came back year after year, bringing their friends with them, more permanent residences were built on these properties, as well as attractive hotels explicitly designed for those travelers that brought business into town by filling up rooms every season of the year. In its prime before WWII, many resorts were lining both sides of 23rd Ave E between Fisher Pavilion and Seward Park (which is now a Seattle City Park and was built by the CCC in 1937) on land that had been logged not too long before. None of these resorts remain, but there are still some old cabins here and there to remind us of what used to be.

 

After WWII, many people came home from Europe or Asia looking for work right where they left off years ago when their lives were interrupted with war-time service overseas. As such, Madison Park began seeing an influx of new families who moved into existing homes rather than building brand new ones like those seen at the turn of the century resort era (and even more recently during the post-war construction).

Facts about the Madison Park Neighborhood

 

The neighborhood has a population of only more than 27,000 residents and covers about three square miles near Lake Washington. The Madison Park Seattle Area was named for President James Madison, who never visited America’s northwest region, but his name remains part of this neighborhood’s history.

 

In 1851 John J Ohmer bought 640 acres from Henry Yesler at public auction for $700, then built a cabin on the eastern shoreline where he raised cattle and fruit trees until selling it to Thomas Mercer in the 1860s. He used proceeds from that sale to open downtown Tacoma’s first bank called Pullman & Company, which became First National Bank after merging with two other banks, including Puget Sound National Bank. His family owned this land until 1954 when they donated it to the city for a park known as Madison Park, named President James Madison.

The history of the Stevens neighborhood goes back nearly a century ago when it was an active commercial and entertainment district. Most activities happened around Broadway Avenue, where theaters were built for live performances by famous musicians and performers such as Duke Ellington and Nina Simone. In addition, there are countless restaurants opened all over this community because people come from other parts to enjoy themselves here with friends or family members while having fun socializing together while enjoying their favorite foods. Plenty of breweries and bars can be found here due to the history of this neighborhood, where it was once a trendy entertainment district which continues even today after multiple renovations took place. More than thirty bars and breweries have opened up here in the past ten years alone, which is why some people may wonder how this city has managed to keep up with that many new businesses all opening at the same time. That is why they have continued to do so because there are plenty of people who live here locally and tourists passing through this city.

There are so many incredible restaurants within walking distance from your door! Many boast local teas, farm-fresh ingredients, and shareable plates perfect for friends and family gatherings alike. We particularly love Eltana woodfired bagels (made without chemicals or artificial stuff), which pair perfectly with their lavender lemonade. The “E Lake” area provides various options, but our personal favorites are Lecosho for its delicious cocktails and Canlis if you want to go all out!

Stevens is home to numerous parks, including Carkeek Park, where you can stroll along the beach or take a hike through the hilly trails. Bring your binoculars because there are spectacular bird-watching opportunities here as well! Additionally, we love spending time at Magnuson Park on Lake Washington for walks with our dog and outdoor fun such as flying kites or playing fetch together.

Farmers Market: A community event hosted in Stevens Neighborhood monthly and attracted many visitors. Visitors can purchase locally grown vegetables, flowers, and plants to add color to their yards. The market also has food trucks for people who would like variety from the produce available at the market booths.

 

Summer Concert Series Festival: This annual summer festival is always well attended by residents of the Stevens Neighborhood. There are games for children and adults, including an adult version of ring toss called beer pong, where participants must hit cups filled with water or beer onto nearby tables instead of throwing rings over them. As you would expect for such a beautiful urban setting, there are some great homes in this vicinity and many parks, including Lincoln Park, which is home to one of Seattle’s most popular running trails known as “The Arboretum.”

 

– Montlake has two sections: Old (“Upper”) Montlake and the newer “Lower” or “Westside” Montlake. Most homes in both areas are early-twentieth-century Craftsman bungalows initially built as part of an independent homeowners association developed by John Arthur and William Bainbridge. Summer Concerts in the Park: We can’t get enough of this monthly event held at Montlake Community Center! It features free music from various performers. This past summer, we were treated to several classic rock bands that had everyone singing along and dancing in their seats. There are also numerous food trucks there, so you don’t have to worry about being hungry.

 

Montlake Boulevard: This beautiful street is perfect for a morning or evening stroll! There are tons of trees lining the sidewalks, so you’ll get lost in this nature wonderland while taking in all of its charms.
