Arlington Heights Portland Oregon

Arlington Heights, Portland, Oregon

Arlington Heights is a neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, attracting interest from real estate investors for the past few years. If you are looking for a great place to invest or purchase a new home, Arlington Heights should be at the top of your list!

History Arlington Heights Neighborhood

Arlington Heights is a neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. It was named for the Arlington family who settled there in 1859 and opened a Cedar Grove Tavern hotel at Schofield Road between Capitol Highway and Bybee Boulevard. The area that would become this historic community started as farmland with large stretches of strawberry fields owned by three families: the Arlington (hence the name), McCulloughs, and Richardsons. They also had small parcels of cropland where they grew hay to feed their livestock. Eventually, some of these farms were turned into orchards when it became more profitable than raising crops like corn which could be sold off cheaply elsewhere due to overproduction during World War I.

The Arlington Heights community began to form in the 1920s when a streetcar line was put in from Portland’s downtown core. This allowed people working in the city to live further out in the suburbs and commute via public transportation. The area around Schofield Road became famous for its large lots, good soil, and views of Mount Hood. Soon, folks were building houses along what is now called Arling- ton Heights Road (named after those very same Arlington family). Many of these homes are still standing today and are some of the oldest surviving structures in this part of town.

A few businesses popped up along Schofield, including a small grocery store, blacksmith shop, barbershop, gas station, and lumberyard. This area just south of the central commercial nodes formed around SE 82nd Avenue and SE Division Street in Portland was eventually annexed into city limits.

The Arlington Heights neighborhood has a rich history evident today in its architecture and layout. Many of the original homes still stand, and new developments have been designed to complement the older homes and maintain the neighborhood’s character.

History of Ardenwald-Johnson Creek Neighborhood

The Ardenwald-Johnson Creek, Portland’s older neighborhood, has a rich history and a colorful past. Over the years, the residents who settled in this area built houses that reflected their personalities and filled them with memories of holidays, celebrations, births, and deaths. Many homes are now being demolished to accommodate newer ones, but many still stand proudly as part of an era gone by. There was no better place than these beautiful old neighborhood streets to celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving when you were growing up here decades ago!

Housing became available after World War II from lots created where housing units had been destroyed during the war effort around 1942-1944 in cities across the U.S., including parts of Oregon’s largest city at that time – Portland. In 1948, the City of Portland passed a bond measure to provide money for low-interest loans and grants from the U.S. Federal Housing Administration (FHA) through its “Defense Homes Corporation” program for veterans who wanted homes in neighborhoods. Ardenwald-Johnson Creek, Portland, Oregon!

Many people were able to buy their first home because the FHA subsidized housing with reduced down payments and interest rates that made homeownership affordable despite sharp increases in real estate values throughout much of this area as well as across Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, and New York during those years before World War II when many families could barely afford food on an annual income under $2000 per year – let alone pay rent or put 20% down payment on a house!
