About the Matthews Beach

The Matthews Beach neighborhood started as a resort in 1903 and grew popular when it was transformed into a city playground in the 1930s. In the 1950s, development began to occur, and it became home to many families drawn by its charm. Since then, it has been rezoned multiple times, which changed the character of Matthews Beach from an active resort-style neighborhood to modern family residences that include townhomes and single-family homes with some apartments for students or young professionals close by in the U District.

It is located in the city of Seattle, Washington. According to local census bureau data reports, the area has around 24,000 residents, with about 18% living at or below poverty. Crime rates are low, and the site is considered safe. This makes it ideal for raising children compared to surrounding neighborhoods, where crime rates tend to be much higher, and education opportunities are limited in some areas.

The area is being redeveloped by Seattle City Light which plans to construct a new substation nearby on public property. However, the city has designed for this, and it is not expected to affect property values or quality of life in any way.
