This area of Portland is located in the southeast part of town. The neighborhood was first settled by a man named David Ladd, who had been an early settler on Sauvie Island and Oregon City near Willamette Falls. In 1848 he acquired some land from John Crouse and Domingo Creek, which would become Sunderland Neighborhood, Portland, Oregon. Today it has a population of just over five thousand residents living here with many parks along its borders that include Powell Butte Nature Park and Mount Tabor Park, among others for outdoor recreation purposes, including hiking trails.

 

The people living in this area are primarily white, making up about eighty-three percent of the total neighborhood demographic. Asians make up nine percent, followed closely by Hispanic and Latino residents at eight percent. The median age of the people living in this area is thirty-two years old. Most adults have earned a high school diploma or GED equivalent and some college education with an average income of just over $35,000 per year for those employed here.
