History of Mill Park Neighborhood


The Mill Park neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, is located east of downtown and north of the I-205 freeway. The area was once known as Harlow, after William H. Harlow, who settled there in 1853. In 1889, the Northern Pacific Railway built a line through the area, and a station was established called Mill Park Station after the park was nearby. The name stuck and eventually became the official name for the neighborhood.


The first homes in Mill Park were built in 1905, and it soon became a popular place to live because of its proximity to downtown Portland and easy access to public transportation. Many of the early homes were single-family houses, but more multi-unit housing has been built over time, including apartments, condos, and townhouses.
